Hoyland Common Primary School - The Best in the World

Gifted and Talented Residential Visit

In June the gifted and talented gang from Y5 and Y6 took part in a 3 day residential visit to Thornbridge hall near Bakewell. They took part in a wide range of different challenges and activities.

A whole host of different team building activites were done, including, herding blind folded humen sheep and passing people through a spiders web.

Also the children had to climb a cargo net to find the grid references they needed to plot there walk on the second day.

Having plotted the walk the children followed their maps along the Cheedale Valley, taking in some magnificent scenery. The next part of the challenge was to abseil off a bridge and collect a photo on the way down. The photos gave clues on how to complete the second half of the walk.

On the final day the children had the opportunity to walk around Chatsworth house and gardens and also have a bit of fun in the adventure playground.

Y5/6B

Victorian Kitchen

Experience Day

Cannon Hall

26th October 2007

Or was it 1857!

A brilliant day was had by Y5/6B at the Victorian Kitchen experience at Cannon Hall. The class looked amazing dressed up as Victorian servants.

Many activities were done, including, making butter, polishing the brass, buffing the leather, washing all that dirty linen by hand and not to mention making lunch. And what a lunch it was, a wonderful vegetable soup, followed by a devine apple crumble, all made freshly by the servants that day.

Y5/6 Bridge

Building Challenge

Tuesday 19th February 2008

Only paper, scissors and string needed! And alot a patience

The 3 year 5/6 classes were set a challenge to build a bridge made from only paper, scissors and string that would cross a 80cm tray of water.

Wieghts were then added to see which was the strongest. As per usual Mr Banham, Mr Hastey and Mr Fallon won!!

The Landing

Suddenly I could hear defening gun fire from all around our military lander. From out of nowhere a giant torpedo came flying and hit the boat, everybody shouted "take cover".  I opened my eyes not knowing I was in the water, it went awfully silent...

I managed to drag myself out of the dark bloody sea and get shelter from the showering bullets, that were just missing my camouflaged helmet. Suddenly a bullet fired from the oncoming Germans went straight through my arm. I was down on the sharp sand, tears were streaming from my eyes. What I had feared had come true, all my fellow soilders were dead and now I knew I was going to die.
